Service Flag Posters

Because Somebody Talked Poster

In this 1943 poster, a faithful and sad cocker spaniel with its head resting on a sailor's collar on back of a blue chair and a “Gold Star” service flag hanging on the wall behind, signifies a family member who has died in war. Artist Wesley Heyman conveys the message “Don’t talk about the war- Loose lips do sink ships”. The cocker spaniel was chosen because in 1943, it was the most popular breed. Hutson Collection.
